Jets Facing Possible Inspections After Emergency Landing
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to recall and inspect all Eclipse 500 private jets due to a possible problem with the throttle after an emergency landing was made at Chicago-Midway airport last Friday.
On the aviation scene since 2000, Eclipse Aviation of Albuquerque, NM, started producing its new two-engine four-passenger jet to the public in late 2006. Even though the Eclipse 500 costs about $1.5 million, it’s a relative bargain in comparison to the Cessna Mustang which sells for a cool $2.6 million.
200 Eclipse 500 very light jets have been sold worldwide so far – two of which were actually sold on eBay. The company maintains the jets airworthiness and this is the first engine control problem in the 18,000 hours of fleet flying time for the Eclipse 500.
