AA Emergency Landing at LAX
An American Airlines flight from San Francisco to Miami was forced to make an emergency landing at LAX shortly after takeoff this past Monday.
Airport officials said that the pilot reported “smoke and the smell of fuel in the cockpit” but after investigation no fire was found. Maintenance crews had just completed work on the aircraft hydraulic system which can sometimes cause excess fuel to spill. It is not clear whether this had something to do with the report made by the pilot.
The Boeing 757 was carrying 180 passengers and there were no reported injuries. The passengers de-planed and boarded another aircraft to continue their flight to Miami.
