Baby Penguin Burial Grounds
For the past two months almost 400 dead baby penguins have washed up on the tourist beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The penguins originate from Antarctica and Patagonia - the southernmost point of South America. Scientists report that it is normal for some baby penguins to wash ashore and many are even take to zoos later to be air lifted back to their southern homes.
This year the scientists are at a loss to explain the phenomenon although a zoo official believes that overfishing has forced the penguins to swim closer to shore in search of food which also forces them into the strong ocean currents from the Strait of Magellan which carries them north.
The beaches are continued to be monitored.
