Earthquake Near Sulawesi, Indonesia

A few hours ago, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 occurred near the Minahasa Peninsula, off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) the epicenter was located 920 miles south of Manila, Philippines and 1180 east north east of Jakarta, Indonesia.

A tsunami warning as been issued within 600 miles of the epicenter located in Sulawesi.   

Sulawesi is well known for its world class scuba diving with an abundance and variety of sea life, coral, and wreck diving all with an average visibility at 10-15 metres (33-45 feet).

Only one hour after the initial earthquake, a second aftershock was reported with a magnitude of 5.5 originating from the same Sulawesi region.
